The shoe designer of the century? Without hesitation - Manolo Blahnik. It has become such a cliché to utter these words, but it is profoundly true. His shoes are tiny works of art, and the woman who wears them is transformed into his living canvas. In the words of Alexandra Shulman, editor of Vogue magazine, "If God had wanted us to wear flat shoes, He wouldn't have invented Manolo Blahnik". The hit television series "Sex and the City" has made an already illustrious designer into one of the most sought after creators in the fashion world. The role of Carrie Bradshaw is played by the magnificent Sarah Jessica Parker who is a huge fan of Blahnik's heels. In fact, she loves them so much that she surfaced from her apartment, adorned with Manolo masterpieces, on the day before she was due to give birth, to present the designer with an award. |

According to Manolo, "When a woman walks in heels it changes the way her body moves." Blahnik, in spite of his popularity and international acclaim, still crafts each shoe from heel to toe himself. Most of his shoes come with a price tag starting at US $455.00, but if you have ever worn a pair you will realize what a genius this man is, and while your pocketbook might be empty, you will feel on top of the world. Literally. Manolo's shoes come in satins, fur and suede and are generally perched atop a four inch heel. They are often covered in sequins, beads and pearls, but can also be adorned with diamonds and rubies, if you are willing to pay the price. |
So, why do we love him and his art form so much? He knows how to make women happy. He is the one designer of shoes who all others will be measured against in the fashion world - now and in the future. He knows what we need to feel sexy, feminine and alluring. Manolo has a way of taking those of us who live in 'Kansas' to a different world that is beautiful, lavish and magical, with just three clicks of our heels.
