Tips for Looking Slimmer
Ahhh…To be tall and thin. Isn't that what most of us dream about all the time? If I had a new Prada bag for every lady who comes into my boutique and wishes for these two things, Vogue would be doing a feature article on my handbag closet alone. Regrettably, most of us were simply not made that way. While there is only so much eating right and exercising that we can do to get the thinner part down, we all feel that there is nothing we can do to look taller. This is just not the case. Here, I would like to give you a few tricks of the trade, a handful of do's and don'ts as to what we can do to look both taller and slimmer.
One thing that is absolutely vital is our posture. No matter what your weight or height, the straighter you stand, the taller you will appear. To get the maximum effect with posture, the chin should be slightly raised, shoulders back, stomach in and you should walk with one foot in front of the other. Posture is a simple thing, something that we all have the ability to correct.
We should all wear what best fits our figure. Most of us underestimate the importance of tailoring. It is the most critical part, as far as the appearance of our clothes go. The baggier the clothes, the bigger you look. Our clothes should not be too tight, but should fit to our bodies accurately. With tailoring, you can turn all of your ready-to-wear into couture. If your clothes fit to a T, they will always look more expensive, no matter what they cost.
| The longer the pants, the longer and slimmer you'll look. A wider pant leg trims the hips and waist. Flat front pants are a great weapon in the battle to make you look slimmer. Vertical stripes are also fantastic in this war, as they bring the eye up and down, making you appear taller. Stay away from horizontal stripes as they do the opposite and do make you appear wider than you actually are. |

Not only are they absolutely terrific… high heels are a necessity. They give the semblance that you are standing up straighter, and as you now know, posture is key! Heels do take a little getting used to, as sometimes they are apt to be uncomfortable, but the look they give you is well worth the sacrifice. And if it makes you feel any better, you will get accustomed to wearing them. Some people have a hard time trying to master walking in heels. The one thing to remember which will make your high heel walk a much simpler one is to always walk heel to toe, heel to toe. |
Single-breasted jackets are great for heavier women who would like to look slimmer. The more vertical buttons your jacket has, the better. No matter how popular they have become, heavier, shorter women should stay away from pea coats. Since they are double breasted they give you a barrel shape, which we all know is not good.
Dark colours are another way to slim down and give the effect of a longer, leaner body. This in no way means that you have to wear black every time you leave the house, but darker, richer colours such as black, brown, navy, etc… can elongate and slim down our bodies. |
|
With all of these tips on looking taller and slimmer, every one of us should be walking around looking like a fashion model in no time flat, right? Well… maybe not, but these are some things we can do to make us look and feel better about our appearance. The last thing that we should all remember is that when you exude confidence, you can pull off just about any look - and feel great about it at the same time.
Until next time,
