What we need: Since there is no charge for posting your ad, we cannot spend any more time on it than copying your ad and pasting it into the listings.
Consequently your ad has to be in publishable form; it must be spell checked, and in proper English, in complete sentences, with complete words (no abbreviations), a maximum of 150 words, and adhere to the form shown as follows:

Please follow the above form as we will not publish ads written in all capital letters, or all in bold text, with incomplete sentences, with stars and bullets, and with abbreviations (this is not necessary on the web).
Place the text of the ad right into your email - no attachments. We will not open emails with attachments. And since this is a free service, we cannot correspond about your ad. Just follow the form, email it to us, and we'll post it.
Following the above form is in your own best interest. It makes it easier for your ad to be understood by prospective roomies. Ever had to shop for groceries in a 'strange' supermarket - and you could not find anything because nothing was in familiar places? The same thing happens if every ad differs from every other ad. People become frustrated because nothing is in the same place. Following this form also saves you lots of unproductive phone calls.
State "Roommate Wanted Ad" in the Subject line of your email. Unless cancelled by you earlier, your ad will run for one month - for example from the 7th to the 7th of the next month. Please include a password of your choice along with your ad, and quote this password when cancelling your ad, to prevent unauthorized cancellation. If your ad needs to run longer than one month, email it to us again.
Since students often come to Greater Victoria from far away places, be aware that you may receive inquiries from those far away places. Consequently, your ad should always include "Victoria" if your place is in the Greater Victoria area, and your telephone number should always be in the long distance format (as shown in the above example).

District or Area: Essential. People may not even look at your ad if the district or municipality (James Bay, University Heights, Gordon Head, Esquimalt, View Royal, etc.) is not given.
Rent & Deposit: Essential. Clearly state the amount of rent and of the security deposit.
Utilities: Essential. Clearly state whether utilities - hydro, heat, water, etc. - are included, or shared.
Date of Availability: Essential. Clearly state when the accommodation is available.
Pet & Smoking: Essential. Clearly state whether pet or smoking is allowed or not.
Contact Information: Essential. Provide telephone number or email address, or both.
