nd yes, and of course, there are then also soul mates, twin souls, task companions, guides, guardian angels, and best of friends souls - the kind of friends who are always there for you, no matter what. This also explains, very nicely, why we sometimes encounter people whom we have never seen before, but have the instant feeling that we have 'known them all our life". Of course. These are souls we have been very close to in previous lives. |

And this brings us to reincarnation. Since everything in this universe is subject to Decay, including our bodies, and since we are eternal immortal souls, it becomes necessary, from time to time, to get a new body when the old one has worn out, or has been lost by accident - or for one reason or another. And we do - all the time, actually.
And this, my dear friends, makes all the difference in the world, and particularly so in relationships. Our kids are eternal souls who have entrusted us with their upbringing. Awesome. And we have made the same choice with our parents. Our mates are eternal souls who have chosen to experience another chapter in the "book of their lives" with us. Our friends are other eternal souls who love us. Our acquaintances are eternal souls who are getting acquainted with us, and vice versa. Our favourite nieces and nephews are very often our soul mates - and sometimes also task companions, for the life tasks we have chosen. And so forth, and so forth - eternal immortal souls everywhere, a whole planetfull, all doing their thing.
Some are here for the first time (very few now), some have been here many times already. Others have been here many, many times (the majority), and others have been here a lot (almost as many). Others yet have first come here many thousands of years ago, and have almost finished their sojourns in the physical plane. These then are the infant, baby, young, mature and old souls - irregardless of their present physical age.
And you can tell them by their perceptions. The young souls 'rip out trees', to use an analogy. They want to change things, do things their way, and want others to do it the same way. They are mostly concerned with their own welfare, love power, wealth and fame, but they are also the shakers and the movers of civilisations. The mature souls 'plant trees', so to speak. They are concerned with the welfare of everyone, of their community, society, the world, of animals and trees, the environment, and so forth - the "bleeding heart" who will "give the shirt off their back" to another. They are content to let people do things their own way, as long as it doesn't interfere with theirs. Mature souls are not impressed by power, wealth and fame, seek it rarely, and then only for a larger altruistic purpose. Finally, there are the old souls. They "leave everything alone", from their hard won wisdom that every soul must go through its own growth and development, must follow its own path, has its own purpose, and that everything develops and unfolds as it must. The "Desiderata" was written by an Old soul. They have come to understand that we are all together in this, that we are essentially one family, albeit an immense one, and behave much like doting grandparents, in a way - to everyone.
All this is very important in relationships. Soul mates are almost always of the same soul age, and therefore have much the same perceptions, understand each other really well, and have been incarnate together, although not necessarily in couple relationships, in many, many other lives. They most often have been brothers and sisters, favourite nices and nephews, as well as couples and all kinds of other close lifelong relationships.
Because of their shared perceptions, relationships are most successful and rewarding between souls of the same soul age. Young soul - young soul relationships are a bit turbulent - the typical "kiss and make up routine" - but they understand each other well, they come from "the same space", and are generally quite happy with each other.
Mature soul - mature soul relationships are much calmer, and among the most beautiful relationships as each is preeminently concerned with the well being of the other, as well as for their shared concerns with larger issues.
Old soul - old soul relationships are the calmest, the freest, and the 'lightest' on each other, with a deep and profound awareness and appreciation of each others soul. An old soul sees nothing wrong in, and would be delighted actually, if his wife would share her bed with a friend in need - and without regard to gender - for instance. Old souls truly make no distinctions of any kind.
The troubles arise in relationships between souls of different soul age. A young soul cannot understand the altruistic concerns of the mature soul, and the mature soul cannot understand the essential self-concern of the young soul. This results in a lot of conflict and heartache - unless the older soul understands and makes allowances for these differences, as old souls invariably do.
Nevertheless, mature souls often choose, by agreement between these souls, a baby soul for teaching. Such relationships are invariably rather exasperating for both, but nevertheless fulfilling, because of the teaching agreement between them.
The young or mature soul cannot understand the laid-back, laissez-faire, everything is hunky-dory attitude of the old soul, and is prone to berating it for this again and again.
Relationships of older souls with infant and baby souls are the most difficult, due to the vast differences in perceptions, unless the older soul knows about these things and is able to make allowances.
Still, Love is capable of conquering all. It just won't be easy.
We also take incarnations in both genders - almost turn by turn - and in all races. This makes a cosmic, if often painful, irony of any discriminations that we may harbour, and is an inevitable and rather just consequence of any such discrimination. We also take at least one handicapped and one homosexual incarnation - to come to understanding, compassion and love. Instead of "walking a mile in another's shoes", our souls chose to "walk a life in another's shoes".
Our souls also hold us fully responsible for all we think, say and do, and oblige us to "make good" any harm we may have done to another soul, from the most minor to the most terrible, by experiencing this harm our selves, either in this life, or in most cases, in another. This is the welknown concept of "karma" - "a tooth for a tooth, and an eye for an eye", but also "a kindness for a kindness, and a help for a help" - a "karmic debt" that is owed to the other soul. The "karma" we have accumulated, mostly in our infant, baby and young phases, and its balancing later on, is one of the major driving forces of our many returns, and all of it, every little bit, must be balanced before we can go on to the higher dimensions.
Finally, it must be said that every soul is perfect for its state of development, and in its own right - just like every baby, toddler and child is perfect for his or her stage of development. Each soul must grow up in its own way, at its own pace, and along its own chosen path. And all of us have "been there"; we have been infant, baby and young souls ourselves, just as all of us have been babies, toddlers, children and teenagers. Nevertheless, all souls can be taught - just as we teach our children.
So, we can relax, for we have all eternity, and enjoy what is the most wondrous, most beautiful, most mind boggling and most cosmic gift of this universe - the gift of eternal Life, and our freely chosen participation in the manifold splendour of earthly life, where death is but a temporal thing, where no one is ever really lost - for we will be together again and again - and where we are given youth, beauty and above all Love again and again and again, ad infinitum. Actually, and if the truth were known, we have every reason in this universe to turn somersault of joy all the time, and all over the place.
Appendix: :There have been a couple of incidents in the recent past, where a husband has shot his wife, and then himself. Imagine their surprise and consternation when, after a few minutes of disorientation, they find themselves face to face again, only this time as immortal souls, in the astral dimension, and now with a karmic bond between them where the roles will be reversed, by choice, in a future life.
Appendix 2: The closest thing to a name for the Infinite Consciousness who has created this universe is Love: Infinite and Unconditional Love. And all the love we harbour and are capable of is our direct endowment from this Infinite Consciousness - and a Joy to the Infinite Consciousness.
Appendix 3: And for the more scientifically minded. The law of Progressive Complexity is the inseparable complement of the "ironclad" law of Decay, and therefore, just as "ironclad" as the law of Decay. The two are actually the two phases of one single bi-polar law - as so obviously evident in all growth and decay.
Appendix 4: Enough already.
Recommended reading: "Messages From Michael", by Chelsea Quin Yarbro, Berkley Books, 1999 - the clearest, the fullest, no nonsense, down-to-earth explanation of the whole soul scene, by "Michael", a 5th level Causal Plane entity who has gone through the whole thing, here on the Earth, centuries ago. Michael now teaches, all who ask, about the wondrous ways of the soul. The book contains many dozens of verbatim messages from Michael, around which Chelsea Quinn Yarbro has woven the story of the group of people who have received them. Makes "Seth Speaks" seem like a fuzzy kindergarten primer. Highly recommended.
